I am not a marketing guy at all, but I am thinking of a new perspective to promote and strengthen a company brand image.
I am exploring of a new form of marketing channel that can reach the target audience directly through the use of vast emerging mobile device technology, i.e. smart phone and tablet PC. I don't need to convince you the potency of the huge community size of the mobile device users and a fantastic inclining growth number every year. I believe we realize the mobile users community is a powerful and enormous future market. What I am doing now is developing a simple program, a tool that would be useful to the users although it is simple. The first try that I want to test my theory is a "Financial Planning Calculator" that assists the user to plan the kid's education or retirement (at this moment I only create these two menus). Don't under estimate this tool, when you try it you may surprise your self. You see, this simple tools opens many people's eyes and trigger the awareness that all this time they may not well prepare for those needs.
I highlight some important notes that must be considered in regard to the tool:
- It should be very simple and easy to operate instantly even without help and user manual
- The layout design should be interesting with pictures and nice color rather than plain texts that make people bored
- The tool is free. As we put the company logo & contact information in the program (e.g. at the top of the screen), we want the users are aware that this tool is associated to the company. Each time the users open the application, their eyes surely look at the logo so the company brand will be planted in their minds. Be noticed that our goal is not to earn money from the program use, instead to distribute the program as wide as possible with no barrier. By allowing the users to obtain the tool freely, we wish the program is installed on as many devices as possible. Imagine your company logo is in every device.
Right now I already have the program prototype ready to be distribute, the screen captures are attached at the end of this article. It is in Android smartphone platform, and I can easily create another version for the Android tablet PC. Using the same concept, the development for iPhone and iPad platform is possbile although it takes some time and requires more efforts. Later it can be posted in the Android Market and App Store so it is open for anybody to download, or alternatively put the download link at the corporate website.

A Sales Quotation System (SQS) or also so called the Sales Illustration System (SIS) is a sales toolkit used the life insurance agents to show the comprehensive picture of the life insurance products to the customers. An SQS is an important tool utilized by the front liners when meeting the customers to clearly explain the variations of insurance plans, combinations of basic protection and additional coverage (riders); and how the policy performs. It can be done by entering the customers’ profiles (age, gender, etc) along with the selected insurance plan and the corresponding premium amount or the sum assured to calculate the protection coverage. SQS simulates future benefits and how the funds are accumulated over the years.
SQS is a powerful tool for a field agent to generate new businesses for the company. It is essential for the system to be:
- Fast and accurate: generating correct calculations rapidly
- Easy to operate: user-friendly look and feature
- Informative: producing easy-to-read handouts and reports,
- Satisfying the technical aspects such as the technology platform and security wise
My Sales Quotation System (MYSQS) is introduced to respond the needs. The software is designed and developed by the practitioners who are day-to-day experienced in life insurance industry and various products for many years. Some key features:
- Supporting both traditional life and investment linked products with common riders such as waiver of premium, personal accident, critical illness, hospitalization and family benefit (multiple dependents) - suitable for typical agency and banc assurance products.
- The benefit illustration is generated in a PDF format within few seconds. The output can be stored in the agent’s computer and emailed to the customers.
- Fully written in Java code, allowing the system to run on several platforms. NLSQS is well tested on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8. It is easily adaptable on Linux.
- Stand alone, no dependency on specific components or other 3rd party software. The only component needed is the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), also known as the Java Virtual Machine – which is free software and common for any Java applications.
- Run on the fly, no software installation/configuration. NLSQS immediately runs from the executable file. This is an important feature for the banc assurance deployment, where many banks apply strict IT policies that prohibit 3rd party installation on the company computers.
- Plug and play from external drives (e.g. USB/pen drive), allowing the software to be run on any computers handy and easily.
- Relatively small size (20-30 MB, depending on the products set up in the system), allowing the company to distribute the software quickly and easily to the field agents using media like CD, pen drive or Internet.
- Encrypted database ensuring the company products set up in the system cannot be read from the back door.
- Supporting multi language for the user interface, the user can change the language quickly and easily. Current supported language: Bahasa and English
